Proportion

There are several different proportional breakdowns, but I always liked the 8 head version. It divides evenly into 4 heads above the mid point and 4 below. The pubis symphysis is the midpoint, which is a clear landmark and easy to find when working from life or imagination.

The first step in learning anatomy is memorizing the location of the main muscle groups. Then understand how they function, including their origins and insertions. Lastly, see muscles as forms that lay on top of the skeleton armature.
